Teen and Adolescent Counselling

Adolescence can be such a challenging time, with so many internal changes to the brain and body and also complex situations that arise socially, academically, and within the family.  We are here to support your teen aged 13-18 in a relaxed, comfortable, and non-judgmental manner.  We can help support you and your youth regarding a wide variety of struggles.  We primarily utilize the evidence-based modalities of CBT, DBT, and ACT in our work, as well as visual expressive arts.

While there are some teens who are asking to attend therapy or are looking forward to it, other teens are very nervous and apprehensive or even angry about the idea of attending therapy.  We get that.  Please let your teen know that they can show up however they are feeling.  We will not rush them or force them to talk or answer questions.  They can come sit on our comfy couch or chairs and use fidgets or are encouraged to move around the room should they need, exploring the sand tray and rest of the room.  If the art room is available, they can engage in painting, clay, colouring, diamond art, or bracelet making.

Please note, while we specialize in many presenting struggles, we typically refer out for those needing support around body image/dysmorphia and/or disordered eating.

For this issue, we suggest connecting with Sarah Terwilligar & Associates.
